As I prepare for my first writers conference, I’m excited to participate in this online mixer.
Name: Laurie Smith
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
What you write/tagline/trademark: I write inspirational fiction for middle grade readers. My tagline is “Building His Kingdom one project at a time.”
Place in the book world: Though I’ve been writing for the past few years, I’ve only shared my work with trusted loved ones. This spring, I felt God nudge me to take bold steps as an aspiring author. To be clear, His nudge was more of a shove. I’ve made writing a priority in my life, following where He leads me. I’m also an assistant to an author of inspirational fiction. For three years, I’ve helped increase her exposure online, selected and managed her street team, designed promotional materials, and assisted in planning reader events.
On a scale of hugger to 10-foot-pole, please rate your personal space: I’m pretty sure this picture says it all. My friend and I spread some love in a rough part of town, and her husband captured this moment through his car’s side view mirror. Such a beautiful experience. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
Something VERY serious: How do you take your Starbucks? Not a fan of coffee, but I love to chat over a hot chocolate–skim milk, no whip.
The unique talking points that will get you going for hours: Disney World, our family travels through Michigan, my six-year career as a Girl Scout troop leader.
Loved ones at home you’ll be missing: My husband and our two daughters (ages 11 and almost 10).
Conference goals we can pray for? Since this is a new experience for me, I ask for prayers for focus and productivity over the next few weeks. Please pray that I learn and grow as a writer and that God uses me to bless others as we connect during our time together.
One or two ways we can help you build your platform? If interested, you can like my author page on Facebook or follow me on Twitter.
Can’t wait to read answers posted by others. Planning to attend? Would love to learn more about you. Looking forward to meeting everyone in Nashville!
Good for you for listening to the nudge…er, shove ;). There’s nothing like ACFW – especially the first worship service. I cry Every. Time.
Isn’t this FUN, Laurie??? I loved reading about you! Hopefully we get a chance to catch one another at conference!
Hello, fellow Laurie! I love your story about your God-shove. I got mine in 2013, and it’s been wonderful walking in that obedience and freedom from shame ever since! Can’t wait to meet you at conference, and I’m so excited you get to experience it for the first time. You’re going to have so much fun!
Hi Laurie! I’m so glad you’re listening to God’s call! I’m from Michigan, myself, and I can talk for hours about all the wonderful places to visit. I get that! Can’t wait to meet you!
