As I created this website, I knew I needed a head shot. One evening, moments before our family had to leave for an event downtown, I asked my older daughter to take a few pictures of me in our backyard. The timing, conditions, and equipment were far from optimal, but I wanted to meet my self-imposed time crunch. Now that the ACFW Conference is just weeks away, the time has come to update the photo.
My husband Travis, our daughters, and I spent this past weekend visiting our dear friends on their family farm. Lush green hills rolled into golden fields and a bright red barn stood against a sapphire sky. With ample backdrop opportunities, I asked if someone would snap a quick photo of me for use on social media and promotional materials. I fully expected one of the adults to pull out a phone and click a few pictures of me. Imagine my surprise when Matt retrieved his digital SLR camera and considered possible poses, angles, and backlight. As the impromptu photo shoot unfolded, six children scrambled around the yard, launching water balloons at each other. My husband held up a greasy pizza box to adjust the white balance. Matt’s wife, Calley, used her hands to block the sun and blasted my feet with a squirt gun to get me to relax. We shared quite a few laughs, and it was perfect.
Matt’s time and talent is truly appreciated. I was really impressed with the results, especially the picture I’ve shared in this post.
